Why is Ram Navami celebrated?

According to Hindu religious scriptures, Maryada Purushottam Ram, the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born on the ninth day of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month, in the Punarvasu Nakshatra and Cancer ascendant at 12 noon, in the house of King Dasharatha and Mother Kaushalya of the city of Ayodhya, situated on the banks of Saryu.

Lord Shri Ram’s incarnation was for the establishment of dignity, if Ram was not there, there would be no dignity, it was Lord Shri Ram who taught dignity to the world. The purpose of Lord Shri Ram’s birth was to establish Dharma by destroying the wicked. By killing demons like the evil Ravan, he showed that whoever follows unrighteousness is destroyed one day.

Lord Shri Ram was born in Treta Yug whose description is also found in Valmiki Ramayana, Ram Navami festival is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Lord Ram. Chetra Navratri also concludes on the day of Ram Navami, Goswami Tulsidas started the creation of Ramacharit Manas on the day of Ram Navami.

How is Ram Navami celebrated?

There is no proper description of celebrating Ram Navami, but it can be understood in this way when we share happiness on each other’s birthday in the worldly world, congratulate each other and celebrate the birth of that person on that day. In the same way, our Lord Shri Ramchandra was born on the day of Ram Navami, so we celebrate his birthday in the joy of his birth.

In the worship method of Ram Navami, everyone worships in different ways, some people worship Ram Lala in his child form on his birth anniversary and organize ceremonies of Bhajan Kirtan, etc. In the worship of Ram Navami, after getting free from bath, etc. in the morning, one should clean the temple, install the idol of Lord Shri Ram or Ram Darbar in it decorate the temple with good flowers, and then start the worship.

You can also fast on the day of Ram Navami or you can fast till noon, after the worship in the morning, one should read religious texts like Ramayana or Ramcharit Manas. You can listen to the Ramstuti tune of Ram Navami throughout the day so that you will remain close to Lord Shri Ram. In the evening, you can join Bhajan Kirtan, etc in the temple.

On Ram Navami, one should consume satvik food or prepare other types of dishes and offer them to Ram Lala. All the family members should also eat satvik food and sit together and sing bhajans of God. The women of the house can gather on the day of Ram Navami and celebrate a small festival of bhajan kirtan in which congratulations for the birth of Ram Lala are sung.
